Satellite photos show engulfed island in Indonesia

As of this post, more than 120,000 people have been confirmed dead in the tsunami that hit more than 10 countries around the Indian Ocean. Indonesia having the most number of casualties, with more than 80,000 people confirmed dead, welcomed the new year mourning for their people. Thousands more are missing. Satellite photos below show an island in Indonesia before and after the deadly waves hit the country, killing thousands of people. The top photo was taken on June 23, 2004. The second one shows the Aceh shores taken in by waters after the tsunami.

International relief efforts are on their way to help the affected region. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan warns that it could take up to 10 years to recover from the tragedy.
